The new SANIFAIR voucher

SANIFAIR is now even more attractive for motorway travellers: with a new, simpler price model, a higher value for the popular SANIFAIR voucher and with even more quality of stay and hygiene, as we continue to invest in the popular SANIFAIR sanitary facilities along the motorway.

Your advantages at a glance

Simple: The new 1:1:1 voucher model

You pay 1 euro to use the SANIFAIR sanitary facilities at participating service outlets along the motorway. You receive a voucher in the same amount. You can redeem this for an item from a wide range of products. 1 euro charge, 1 euro voucher, 1 voucher per item - that's the new, simple 1:1:1 principle from SANIFAIR.

Customer-friendly: the 1-to-1 credit

Redeeming the SANIFAIR voucher is now particularly worthwhile for you. Because with the new voucher, SANIFAIR customers receive a redemption value in the full amount of the SANIFAIR fee paid. Customers can redeem the new voucher as guests of Tank & Rast service outlets and the participating service outlets of our partners for one item each from a wide range of products in the shop and catering outlets.

Hygienic: comprehensive modernisation programme

In the coming years, a comprehensive modernisation programme with investments of around 40 million euros will be carried out to further equip and improve the quality at the sanitary facilities. In the future, our facilities will include even more comfort and hygiene, for example with touch-free soap dispensers and additional hand disinfection dispensers.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

All essential questions and answers concerning the introduction of the new voucher model

SANIFAIR introduced a new voucher model along the motorway in November 2022. Until now, SANIFAIR users along motorways have paid a fee of usually 70 cents and received a voucher of 50 cents in addition to using the SANIFAIR facility. The new voucher model follows a simple and customer-friendly 1:1:1 principle: 1 euro fee for use, 1 euro voucher, 1 voucher per item.
SANIFAIR customers thus receive a redemption value in the full amount of the SANIFAIR fee paid, which can be used for a wide range of articles in the shop and catering trade. The use of SANIFAIR facilities is therefore practically cost-neutral for guests of motorway service stations and service areas.

The gradual transition of most of the approximately 430 SANIFAIR facilities along the motorway to the new voucher model will begin on 18 November 2022 and is expected to be completed by 5 December 2022 in most of Tank & Rast's service facilities as well as in the majority of our partners' facilities. Our staff and signs at SANIFAIR locations will inform SANIFAIR users whether the new voucher model is already in place at the service facility in question and about the conditions that apply to it.
Until the transition of a service facility the old voucher model will continue to apply. SANIFAIR users pay a user fee of up to 70 cents and continue to receive a voucher of 50 cents in addition to using the SANIFAIR facility. The new 1 euro voucher cannot be redeemed at these locations for the time being. However, the 50 cent vouchers can still be redeemed at these locations under the same conditions as before.

With the new voucher model, SANIFAIR aims to simplify the voucher redemption process and thus make it more customer-friendly.
At the same time, it allows SANIFAIR to maintain the top standards of cleanliness, service and comfort at its modern and hygienic sanitary facilities along the motorway, which are appreciated by customers, against the background of the sharp increase in operating costs since 2011, especially for energy, personnel and consumables. The new voucher model is already enjoying great approval among our customers.
In a recent representative GfK survey, an clear majority of SANIFAIR users rated the new 1:1:1 model as attractive, fair and easy to understand.

SANIFAIR users can redeem the new €1 vouchers for one item each from a wide range of shops and restaurants at all Tank & Rast service stations and their participating partners who have already introduced the new voucher model. For guests of the motorway service stations and service areas who redeem the voucher, the use of the SANIFAIR facilities is thus practically cost-neutral.
Excluded from the redemption of the 1 Euro voucher are fuels, motor oils and lubricants, tobacco products of any kind including substitutes, tolls, e-loading vouchers, telephone cards, books, newspapers and magazines as well as articles distributed in the name and on behalf of third parties.
For redemption, please refer to the General Terms and Conditions for the new voucher model displayed in the respective SANIFAIR facilities.

Travellers who do not consume anything directly at our motorway service stations and service areas or buy anything in the shop have the option of redeeming the voucher within the calendar year in which it was issued and in the three subsequent calendar years.

SANIFAIR vouchers over 50 cents are of course still valid. They can be redeemed within the calendar year in which they were issued, as well as in the three subsequent calendar years, at all Tank & Rast service stations and their partners nationwide that have SANIFAIR sanitary facilities, under the conditions valid when the old voucher was issued.

Yes, 50 cent vouchers may continue to be accumulated for as long as they are valid, according to their previous conditions.

Yes, all service businesses participating in the new voucher model will continue to accept the old 50 cent vouchers under the conditions that apply to them; a combination with new vouchers is of course possible within the framework of the conditions that apply in each case. Unfortunately, the 1 euro voucher cannot yet be redeemed in service outlets that do not yet participate in the new voucher model.

People with disabilities will continue to have free access to the disabled-friendly toilets at SANIFAIR facilities. The same applies to parents with babies, who will continue to have free access to the baby-changing facilities.

Small children who cannot reach the coin slot will continue to have free access to the sanitary facilities through a special children's access.

The usage fee for the showers will remain unaffected by the changeover to the new voucher model.

Guests of service establishments can also redeem their voucher if they have already eaten or bought something in the service establishment before using SANIFAIR. They will then be refunded the amount of the voucher, up to a maximum of the amount of the receipt. All you have to do is present the daily voucher together with the daily cash register receipt of the service outlet at the cash desk. With the exception of the case described above, a cash payment of vouchers is neither possible in full nor in part.

Step 1
Insert the amount displayed into the payment machine. The machine gives change. The following coins are accepted: 2 euros, 1 euro, 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents. Alternatively, at more and more locations you can also make contactless payments by credit card or with your smartphone.

Step 2
Go through the turnstile. The machine issues you with a SANIFAIR voucher worth 50 cents.
